when my mum and brother were visiting we got the train to
melk for the afternoon. unfortunately the weather turned very grey and rained but the monastery which dominates the town is really worth seeing. its beautiful. the
stift melk (as it is known in german) is said to be the most spectacular baroque monastery in the whole of austria. the library was amazing! (but the only part in which you were not allowed to take photographs).
